Will.i.am "Yes We Can" Video - WOW

I was told about this video that The Black Eyed Pea's Will.i.am produced... so I jumped all over the Web to look up information about the people in the video... (which I have links to who they are at the end.). I originally found it on dipdive.com/, but I also found information on youtube.com, imdb.com, and a variety of places...

VERY INTERESTING.
I share.

---------

Produced by the Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am and directed by Jesse Dylan, Bob Dylan's son.

Yes, We Can! - Si, Se Puede!

Song & video, featuring a star cast, by Will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas. Inspired by Barack Obama's 'Yes We Can' speech.

http://www.yeswecansong.com

http://www.barackobama.com/

http://factcheck.barackobama.com/

It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a nation.

Yes we can.

It was whispered by slaves and abolitionists as they blazed a trail toward freedom.

Yes we can.

It was sung by immigrants as they struck out from distant shores and pioneers who pushed westward against an unforgiving wilderness.

Yes we can.

It was the call of workers who organized; women who reached for the ballots; a President who chose the moon as our new frontier; and a King who took us to the mountaintop and pointed the way to the Promised Land.

Yes we can to justice and equality.

Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity.

Yes we can heal this nation.

Yes we can repair this world.

Yes we can.

We know the battle ahead will be long, but always remember that no matter what obstacles stand in our way, nothing can stand in the way of the power of millions of voices calling for change.

We have been told we cannot do this by a chorus of cynics...they will only grow louder and more dissonant ........... We've been asked to pause for a reality check. We've been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope.

But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope.

Now the hopes of the little girl who goes to a crumbling school in Dillon are the same as the dreams of the boy who learns on the streets of LA; we will remember that there is something happening in America; that we are not as divided as our politics suggests; that we are one people; we are one nation; and together, we will begin the next great chapter in the American story with three words that will ring from coast to coast; from sea to shining sea --

Yes. We. Can.

Although legal action is pending, the congregation is planning on moving forward and finishing this building as well as the landscape and a playground. Money raised from sale of items goes towards our new building fund. Money brought in from a baked goods sale (cookies, cakes, brownies) goes towards playground equipment. The KUMC Youth will also be raising money by having a face-painting booth for the kiddos.

Visit the Kyle United Methodist Church on Saturday February 23, 2008 and help by making a purchase.

2007 Totally Austin Gift Guide

(This originally ran in the December issue of INsite Magazine - insiteaustin.com)

The 2007 Totally Austin Gift Guide

By Sean Claes

So, it's mid-December and you've still not figured out what gifts to get everyone on your list for the holiday. Maybe you need a quick gift for a company party, or that perfect something for that special woman or man in your life. If you're like me, you may have had over a dozen friends who have recently had children, so you're scrambling to pick something out to give them.

INsite took the liberty to collect some things that are true Austin originals. All of the following items are made in Austin by Austinites and sold in local shops and online. Many of these items cost less than $50, so you can pick up something for everyone and still be able to afford the gas to deliver them.

On The Body

All Dressed Up and Shy

This beautiful blue dress is 100% linen and made by All Dressed Up and Shy (alldressedupandshy.com ). It sells for $108 and can be found at Parts and Labour (1604 S Congress Ave)

With a 7 month old daughter, I can tell you our pouch-style baby sling we have has been a livesaver. These slings, by Emily Funderburg - owner/designer 360 Bebe (360bebe.com), are stylish and extremely practical. Find them at the Austin Baby Store, and Due Maternity (3801 N Capital of Texas HWY)

Austin Yarn Company

Their Website calls this funky poncho a marriage of Austin's slack attitude and swanky clothing - a slank ($210). It comes from Cathie Hutchins of Austin Yarn Company (austinyarncompany.com). Also pictured their scarf ($70) and Market Bag ($235). Online orders only.

Hippie Juju Magic

The Independence Brewing Company

The Independence Brewing Company (independencebrewing.com/) has been around for over three years year now. It's been told to me that a favorite is the Bootlegger Brown Ale, but I swear by the Freestyle Wheat. Either way, it's a neat way to bring Austin to a friend. You can find this brew all over - Central Market, Grape Vine Market, various HEBs, various Twin Liquors, Wheatsville Co-Op, Whole Foods, Whip In, and many neighborhood convenient stores like Bread Basket, C-Mart, etc.

Boomerang's Gourmet Veggie & Meat Pies

Looking for a good Australian Meat or Veggie pie with an Austin twist? I knew that you were... and look no further than Boomerang's Gourmet Veggie & Meat Pies (boomerangspies.com/). Eat or buy frozen at the restaurant (3110 Guadalupe), buy them at Central Market or have them shipped by the dozen to Utah (or any other state).

Kerbey Lane Cafe

Sweet Leaf Tea

Have you ever had Sweet Leaf Tea (sweetleaftea.com/)? I must admit, I'm not a fan of the sweet tea, so I never thought I'd enjoy this product, but I got my hands on some of their Raspberry Tea and MAN it was slap-your-grandma good. You can find it at all the major shopping centers. Everywhere that sells drinks... really.

Paula's Texas Orange / Lemon

Paula's Texas Orange and now Paula's Texas Lemon premium liquers (paulastexasspirits.com). Now you can get both in a neat gift basket at Twin Liquors, Spec's, and Western Beverage (Costco). Pick up some Tito's Vodka while you're there... I hear they make a wicked good combination.

Spiceburst Gourmet Spices

Add a little Austin-made spice to someone's life. Spiceburst Gourmet Spices (spiceburst.com). These are an assortment of infused sea salts. The photo is of their Garlic Saltburst, but they also boast Chili Lime, Chipolte, Cracked Malabar and many others. ATE Foods

Ever wanted a fantastically cooked meal custom-ordered and delivered to your door from a place that doesn't have "Pizza" in it's name? Everyone else has too. Why not get them some gourmet food from ATE Foods (atefoods.com). It's a different menu each week. Go onto their site and check it out for yourself. December 17 boasts chicken curry, ricorra and feta skillet pie and the one that stands out to me... Hunter's stew with creamy polenta. Yum.

Commemorate Lady Bird This Christmas...

A Gift that Keeps Giving
Keep Texas Beautiful Wildflower Ornament Dedicated to Lady Bird Johnson

(AUSTIN, TEXAS) – Looking for the perfect gift for those on your holiday shopping list? Want to give something meaningful and beneficial to the state of Texas? The 2007 Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) ornament is the perfect solution.

In honor of her commitment to preserving our country’s wildflowers, the fourth edition KTB ornament is dedicated to the late Lady Bird Johnson. More than any other person, Lady Bird inspired not only Texans, but every American, to treasure wildflowers and value the uniqueness they bring to their community. Honoring Lady Bird is especially relevant at this time of the year as December 22nd would have marked her 95th birthday.

The ornament, made of 24 karat plated gold, features a colorful bouquet of wildflowers imposed over the state of Texas. They make beautiful gifts and can be used as holiday decorations, tree ornaments, or collectables to display year-round. Each ornament includes a pamphlet detailing Lady Bird’s dedication to preserving our country’s wildflowers and native plants. Now, you can order your own copy and remember “Texas’ own Wildflower.”

The purchase of the ornament truly is a gift that keeps on giving back to the state of Texas. Proceeds from sales of the ornament help fund KTB’s statewide network of affiliates who focus on litter prevention, waste reduction, and community beautification programs

The ornament was designed by Nelda Laney, who has designed ornaments for numerous Texas organizations and causes over the years, including KTB’s first, second, and third edition ornaments.

Orders for all four editions of the KTB ornament can be made online at www.ktb.org or over the phone at 1-800-CLEAN-TX.
