Two Chances to see DAX, Two Ways in January

Austinites can see DAX in two print media and twice on stage in January. Dax Callner is not only the originator and lead vocalist of one of the premiere industrial rock bands in Austin, he is also a force to be reckoned with in the business world.

Callner’s photo and interview is the section opener of the Technology section (page 140) in the Austin Business Journal’s Book of Lists 2007, which was released in early January and will be on shelves all year long. Each section begins with local musicians who are also movers and shakers in the business world. As Callner is the Vice President & Strategy Practice Leader for Jack Morton Worldwide, he was chosen for the section.

Also, his namesake band, DAX, is the subject of the feature “Austin’s DAX Rocks The Groove” (Pages 28-29) in the January 2007 issue of Austin’s INsite Magazine (http://www.insiteaustin.com).

Austinites will also be able to see DAX perform on stage two times in January. This Thursday, January 11, they will be playing an all-ages show at RedRum (401 Sabine) with One Eyed Doll, USSR, and Animal City. The band will also play Elysium (705 Red River) Thursday, January 25.

You can currently listen to and purchase four tracks on the DAX MySpace page – http://www.myspace.com/DAX.

Check out DAX this Thursday, January 11th at Redrum - a FREE and ALL AGES show. No excuses now!

A Little Post-Christmas Christmas Music - David Garza

I know it's after Christmas.. but you've got to hear David Garza's Christmas Download

I was just at David Garza's site (if you don't know this singer/songwriter you should) and for Christmas he put up something I'd never heard from him... a 17-minute piano instrumental of Christmas Music... it's hauntingly beautiful.

I recommend you go there and download it now... before he takes it down.
http://www.davidgarza.com/downloads.html

Oh.. he's playing Austin, Dallas, Houston, and Los Angeles in the next few months:

Jan 17 2007 11:00P - Continental Club Austin, Texas
Jan. 18 2007 9:00 Shoeshine Charlie's Big Top Lounge Houston, Texas
Jan 31 2007 9:00P - Continental Club Austin, Texas
Feb 1 2007 9:00P - Shoeshine Charlie's Big Top Lounge Houston, Texas
Feb 2 2007 8:00P - Bend Studios Dallas, Texas
Feb 9 2007 9:00P - Largo Hollywood, California
Mar 10 2007 8:00P - Gypsy Tea Room Dallas, Texas

FYI... his music is very different from the download I've sent you to. Visit his MySpace for more - http://www.myspace.com/davidgarza

David Garza is one of the first singer/songwriters who ever recognized ME. When I was starting out as an entertainment writer, I interviewed him back in 1997 after a show at San Marcos' Gordo's.

I followed his music and saw he was playing again in 1998 or 1999 at Gordo's again. It was just about the time that he was one of the featured artists in those Best Buy commercials...

Well... I went to see him and he was shut off early because there was a bunch of folks (fraternity or sorority party) who wanted to dance. So he announced that if anyone came to see him play he'd be outside... and while everyone was gathering he looked over at me and said, "Hey Sean, how's it going?"

Out freaking standing.
I'm going to try and make it to one of his Austin shows...

INsite is looking for a few good bands...

INsite Ad

Austin's INsite Magazine is celebrating 10 years of being in Austin and is putting out a compilation CD (at least one... maybe two or three) to further promote some of the great music that has been and will be featured between the covers of the magazine. As you likely know, INsite is available, for free, at over 400 locations around Austin and is the premiere local monthly Entertainment Magazine with a focus on the world of entertainment as it pertains to Austin.

They are currently looking for bands who would like to be part of INsite history and a part of the Compilation CD. You don't have to be a local band, but Austin bands get preferential treatment... as INsite is committed to promoting local music.

Each run will be 1000 CDs and they will be given out at INsite Events and Promotions.

Follow the contact information on the ad to inquire.

Shrapnel Gets Gear Stolen

Early Sunday morning, Austin's Shrapnel had their gear stolen out of their trailer.

If you'd like to see some shots of their gear, here's a link to the photos INsite Editor Sean Claes took of the show Saturday night at The Backroom - http://www.seanclaes.com/musicphotos.html

If you know ANYTHING about the theft please contact shrapnel at www.shrapnel-online.com

From Shrapnel
ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 2, FOX 7 WILL DO A BRIEF REPORT AT 5 AND AN EXTENDED STORY AT 9 CONCERNING THE THEFT OF SHRAPNEL'S EQUIPMENT THIS PAST SATURDAY NIGHT. ALL OF THEIR INSTRUMENTS, AMPS, EFFECTS, AND EVEN MERCHANDISE WAS STOLEN.

PLEASE REPOST AND ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO WATCH THESE SEGMENTS. THE MORE PEOPLE THAT ARE AWARE OF THE SITUATION, THE BETTER THE BAND'S CHANCES ARE OF RECOVERING THE GEAR.

THE SHRAPNEL CAMP IS BLESSED TO HAVE THE SUPPORT OF SO MANY FRIENDS DURING THIS DEVASTATING TIME. PLEASE CONTINUE TO DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO HELP STOP THOSE THAT WOULD STEAL FROM AUSTIN MUSICIANS AND HELP US GET THIS HARD EARNED AND SENTIMENTAL GEAR BACK TO THE RIGHTFUL OWNERS. EVERYONE'S EFFORTS ARE DEEPLY APPRECIATED.
